International Students Immerse in Chinese Salon for Language and Culture

Our university’s regular Chinese Salon recently welcomed a group of enthusiastic international students, becoming a vivid platform for language practice and cross-cultural exchange. Designed to help overseas students improve their Chinese proficiency and integrate into campus life, the salon attracted participants from diverse countries, including Thailand, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

The event featured interactive sessions tailored to practical communication needs. In the "daily dialogue workshop," students practiced ordering food, asking for directions, and chatting about campus life, with volunteer teachers offering real-time guidance on pronunciation and idiomatic expressions. The "cultural sharing corner" was equally popular—students learned to use Chinese couplets, discussed traditional festivals like Mid-Autumn Festival, and shared their own cultural customs, fostering mutual understanding through lively conversations.

Laughters and discussions filled the room as international students actively engaged in every activity. Many shared that the salon provided a relaxed environment to overcome language anxiety, make Chinese friends, and gain deeper insights into Chinese culture beyond textbooks. The volunteer team also prepared small cultural gifts, such as calligraphy works and paper-cuttings, adding warmth to the gathering.

As a key part of the university’s Chinese language support program, the Chinese Salon continues to bridge cultural gaps, empowering international students to communicate confidently and embrace the richness of Chinese culture.
