Rosa’s Journey at the Chinese Bridge Competition

Rosa, an international student hailing from Zimbabwe, recently took the spotlight at the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, a stage she had been dreaming of and preparing for painstakingly for months.

To shine on the big day, she dedicated hours every single day to polishing her Mandarin pronunciation, memorizing classic Chinese poems, and delving deep into traditional Chinese culture—from tea ceremonies to paper-cutting art. During the competition, she delivered a heartfelt speech themed My Bond with Chinese Calligraphy, sharing how the slow, deliberate art of brush writing had taught her about focus, patience and inner peace. What’s more, she impressed the judges and audience alike with a stunning performance that cleverly combined vibrant Zimbabwean folk dance moves with elegant Chinese fan gestures, creating a beautiful fusion of two distinct cultures. Though she didn’t take home the championship trophy, Rosa considered herself a true winner all the same.

This unforgettable experience ignited her deeper love for China and its profound cultural heritage. She is already eager to explore more ancient towns and art forms across the country, and to keep enhancing her Chinese proficiency to tell more fascinating stories about the connections between Zimbabwe and China.
