The School was founded in 1958, formerly known as Jiangxi Metallurgical College, and is the leader of Jiangxi Province. Since 1962, it has been under the leadership of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. Since 1983, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry has been assigned to the leadership of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation. In 1988 it was renamed the Southern Metallurgical Institute. Since September 1998, the central and local co-construction, to Jiangxi Province management-based management system, in the same year, Nanchang Nonferrous Metal Industrial School assigned to the Southern Metallurgical College management. In January 2000, the former Jiangxi Province Commercial Technical School was incorporated into the Southern Metallurgical College, which became the Western Campus of the Southern Metallurgical College. In 2002, Nanchang Nonferrous Metal School was abolished and officially became the Nanchang Campus of the Southern Metallurgical College. In 2004 it was renamed Jiangxi University of Technology. In 2013, it became the people's government of Jiangxi Province, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Education. Jiangxi Metallurgical College was founded in the year began to recruit undergraduate students. In 1980, the State Administration of Education approved the establishment of postgraduate education, in 1984 began to recruit and train graduate students, in 1986 to obtain the State Council Degree Committee master's degree.
